About Doug Struyk

Experienced Leader - Local Roots

Doug Struyk is running for his fourth term in the Iowa House of Representatives. He is an accomplished, experienced leader and is respected by his colleagues as an independent decison-maker. After his reelection in 2006 he was elected by his caucus to serve as an assistant minority leader.

Doug represents Council Bluffs so well because he was raised in Council Bluffs. He has lived much of his life in our community giving him an in depth understanding of the issues important to our city. Knowing his neighbors and constituents so well helps him truly understand the personal impact of the decisions made by the Iowa legislature.

Doug is an attorney and co-owner of Struyk Turf, Ltd, a Council Bluffs-based business. He attended school in the Council Bluffs, Lewis Central and St. Albert Schools, graduating from St. Albert in 1988. He is a graduate of Iowa State University and the Creighton University School of Law where he graduated with honors.

Doug married Jill (Stroebele) Struyk in 1995 and they have one daughter born in 1998, Elizabeth Mary, who attends St. Albert Elementary School in Council Bluffs. Doug's parents are Garry and Cyndi Struyk of Council Bluffs. Garry is a Vietnam veteran and co-owner of Struyk Turf. Cyndi is trained as an x-ray technician but chose to be a homemaker.

Doug enjoys spending time with his family especially golfing, skiing and traveling.
